About Bofutsushosan
Bofutsushosan combines 18 crude-drug ingredients. Japanese prescription indications include obesity, constipation and swelling in people with substantial abdominal subcutaneous fat and a tendency to constipation. Selection depends on symptoms and constitution, rather than weight alone.
Research and expectations
A prescription Kampo medicine is not automatically appropriate because it is herbal. Its approved symptom pattern differs from the mechanisms of GLP-1 medicines or metformin. Treatment response is reviewed; improvement in constipation should not be equated with a guaranteed reduction in body fat.
Taking the medicine
Follow the directions on your dispensed product. The clinic’s usual schedule is one sachet three times daily before meals. The amount per sachet can differ by manufacturer; do not substitute a retail product or change the dose on your own.
Side effects and precautions
Diarrhoea, abdominal discomfort and appetite loss can occur. Important rare reactions include lung inflammation, liver injury, low potassium with pseudoaldosteronism, muscle problems and mesenteric phlebosclerosis with long-term use. Other Kampo products can duplicate ingredients such as ephedra, liquorice or rhubarb. Discuss all medicines, pregnancy, breastfeeding and heart, kidney or liver conditions. New breathlessness, jaundice or marked weakness needs prompt medical assessment.

From booking to delivery
Book online
Choose an appointment. For a first consultation, provide identification and complete the questionnaire as instructed.
Phone consultation
The doctor calls your registered number. Discuss your goals, health history, medicines and questions in English. A prescription is not guaranteed.
Payment and delivery
After the consultation and payment, dispatch is normally within 2–3 business days, or up to 7 when busy. This is a dispatch estimate, not an arrival guarantee. Delivery is within Japan only.
Oral medicines are generally sent by domestic post. With Click Post, the parcel goes to your letterbox and a delivery-time appointment cannot be selected. Check your delivery address before payment.
A formal English medical letter costs ¥5,000 if requested; a printed receipt is free. Requirements for taking medicine abroad depend on the destination. A letter does not guarantee import permission.
Your questions, answered
How is the right Kampo formula selected?
The doctor reviews bowel habits, symptoms, medical history and overall condition. You do not need to classify your own constitution. Bofutsushosan, Daisaikoto and Boiogito are different formulas and are not interchangeable.
When will I notice a change?
The timing and degree of response vary. A fixed two- or four-week result cannot be promised. Tell the clinic if symptoms do not improve or if diarrhoea occurs, rather than continuing indefinitely.
Is it safe because it is herbal?
Herbal medicines can cause adverse effects and interact with other medicines. Tell the doctor about pharmacy Kampo products and supplements as well as prescriptions.
Can I combine it with a medical diet medicine?
Only after the doctor assesses the full prescription. A combination is not automatically necessary or more effective.
Can I use it with kidney or liver disease?
Share the diagnosis and relevant tests. An online request does not establish suitability; an examination or additional testing may be needed.
What about pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Tell the doctor before using the medicine. Do not start a medical diet treatment during pregnancy or breastfeeding without an individual assessment.
How is it delivered?
Oral medicines are normally sent by domestic postal delivery. Where Click Post is used, delivery is to the letterbox; a delivery-time appointment or hand-to-hand delivery is not available.
Medicine information and sources
Prescription Bofutsushosan is a Japanese-approved Kampo medicine for defined symptom patterns, including obesity. Use outside the dispensed product’s approved indication is off-label. We source through authorised Japanese wholesalers. The Tsumura label below is a clinical reference, not a guarantee of the manufacturer dispensed. Other obesity medicines have different eligibility criteria. Approval and import rules differ overseas. Eligibility for Japan’s adverse drug reaction relief scheme depends on the use and circumstances.
