About Lusefi
Lusefi helps the kidneys pass glucose into urine. It is approved in Japan for type 2 diabetes; using it for weight management is off-label. It is not a medicine that makes unrestricted eating safe.
Research and expectations
Studies in people with type 2 diabetes assess glucose control and weight changes. These results do not establish a fixed amount of weight loss for people without diabetes. Glucose excretion and weight change cannot be converted into a guaranteed daily calorie allowance or a promised number of kilograms lost.
Taking the medicine
The usual adult dose is 2.5 mg once daily, before or after breakfast. A doctor may increase it to 5 mg after assessing the response. Do not change the dose yourself.
Side effects and precautions
Possible problems include frequent urination, dehydration, urinary or genital infections and low blood glucose, particularly with other diabetes medicines. Ketoacidosis can occur even without very high blood glucose. Vomiting, abdominal pain, unusual fatigue or difficulty breathing require urgent medical assessment. Discuss kidney function, pregnancy, breastfeeding, illness, fasting and planned surgery before treatment. Severe kidney impairment or dialysis makes treatment unsuitable.

Choose an appointment. For a first consultation, provide identification and complete the questionnaire as instructed.
Phone consultation
The doctor calls your registered number. Discuss your goals, health history, medicines and questions in English. A prescription is not guaranteed.
Payment and delivery
After the consultation and payment, dispatch is normally within 2–3 business days, or up to 7 when busy. This is a dispatch estimate, not an arrival guarantee. Delivery is within Japan only.
Oral medicines are generally sent by domestic post. With Click Post, the parcel goes to your letterbox and a delivery-time appointment cannot be selected. Check your delivery address before payment.
A formal English medical letter costs ¥5,000 if requested; a printed receipt is free. Requirements for taking medicine abroad depend on the destination. A letter does not guarantee import permission.
Your questions, answered
Who might discuss this option?
Adults considering medical weight management can discuss their goals, diet, medical history and other treatment options. Preference for a tablet alone does not determine suitability; the doctor considers kidney function and other risks.
Can I combine it with another medicine?
Bring a list of all prescriptions and supplements. Options to discuss include Mounjaro, Rybelsus, Sanorex and metformin. A combination is not automatically more effective or appropriate; it requires an individual prescription.
Should I drink more water?
Maintain appropriate hydration and follow the advice given for your health conditions. Contact the clinic if you have vomiting, diarrhoea, reduced food or fluid intake, or feel unwell. Do not wait for a routine reply if symptoms are severe.
Can I take it during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Tell the doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding before considering a medical diet treatment. Do not start it for weight management in these circumstances.
What if my kidney function is reduced?
Share recent blood tests when available. Kidney function affects both suitability and response. Online consultation does not replace a blood test or an in-person examination when these are needed.
Medicine information and sources
This is a Japanese-approved diabetes medicine used off-label when prescribed for weight management. Our clinic obtains medicines through authorised Japanese pharmaceutical wholesalers. Japanese-approved obesity treatments such as Wegovy and Zepbound have their own eligibility criteria; they are not interchangeable with Lusefi. Approval and product availability outside Japan differ. Off-label use may fall outside Japan’s adverse drug reaction relief scheme.
