[Doctor’s Overview] What is “Wegovy”?

Wegovy injection pen (Semaglutide)

Wegovy (semaglutide) is a GLP-1 receptor agonist designed for once-weekly dosing. It supports appetite control and post-meal glucose regulation, enabling sustainable weight management. Treatment typically starts at 0.25 mg and is escalated stepwise depending on tolerability (follow your physician’s instructions). Each multi-dose (MD) pen contains 4 doses, providing approximately one month’s supply per pen.

Once-weekly dosing

Use on the same weekday. Easy to fit into busy schedules.

4 doses per pen

Each MD pen delivers 4 weekly doses — roughly one month per pen.

Stepwise titration

0.25 → 0.5 → 1.0 → 1.7 → 2.4 mg, adjusted with attention to GI symptoms.

Fully online & home delivery

Consultation & shipping are free. Refrigerated shipping and alcohol swabs available.

FAQ

When might I feel an effect?
Some people notice appetite changes early, but the pace of weight change varies. We track progress and adjust dose as needed.
Any side effects?
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea/constipation, abdominal pain, and injection-site reactions may occur. If you experience severe pain or sudden illness, stop and seek care.
Can I take it with other medicines?
Some medicines (e.g., for diabetes) require caution due to hypoglycemia risk. Please disclose all meds/supplements in advance; physicians will ensure safe co-use.
Where can I inject?
Abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Avoid injecting the exact same spot; rotate a few centimeters each time.
How many doses are in one pen?
Each multi-dose (MD) pen contains 4 doses. Since Wegovy is injected once weekly, one pen lasts approximately one month.
Can I purchase like online shopping?
Yes, after an online consultation. Once payment is completed, we deliver to your home. No visit to the clinic is required.
Do I need a Japanese address or residence card?
No. Hotel, Airbnb, or short-term rental addresses are accepted. Please provide check-in date, hotel/room name, and phone number when ordering. A Japanese residence card is not required.
Can I use a foreign credit card?
Yes. We accept VISA, Mastercard, JCB, and American Express from any country. Notify your bank in advance if international purchases are blocked. Bank transfer is also available for larger orders.
Can you ship to my hotel or Airbnb?
Yes. Please share your check-in date, hotel/accommodation name, and room number in advance. We time the cold-chain delivery to arrive during your stay. Front desk signature required for refrigerated items.
Can I consult before arriving in Japan?
Yes. Phone consultations are available while you are still abroad. Complete the consultation and payment before your trip, and we will time the shipment to arrive at your address in Japan (hotel, Airbnb, etc.) during your stay. We recommend booking at least 7 business days before your desired delivery date.
I do not have a Japanese phone number. How can I have the consultation?
We can conduct the consultation via LINE call, international phone, or your hotel phone. Please let us know your preferred method when booking.
Can my family or friend in Japan receive the delivery on my behalf?
Yes. You can specify any Japan address as the delivery destination, including a family member home, a friend home, or a workplace. Please provide the delivery address and the recipient name when ordering.
Can I get an English Doctor Letter for customs?
The printed medical receipt sent with your medicine can serve as a Doctor Letter free of charge. A formal English letter (with doctor name and prescription details) is available at ¥5,000. Please request when booking or during consultation.
Can I order several months of supply at once?
Yes, as long as the medicine can be used within its expiration date. Up to about 1 year of supply is a general guideline. Our doctor will confirm medical appropriateness during the consultation.
Can I use this during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding is generally not recommended. If you are planning pregnancy or become aware of pregnancy, stop using and consult a doctor. Animal studies have reported effects on fetal development.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
If you notice within 48 hours (2 days) of your scheduled dose, take it as soon as possible and resume the regular weekly schedule. If more than 48 hours have passed, skip that dose and resume the regular schedule from the next scheduled date. Do NOT take two doses at once.
What if side effects are strong?
Nausea is more common at initiation and during dose increases. Drinking water frequently and avoiding fatty foods can help. Most patients adapt within 1-2 weeks. If symptoms are severe, we can slow the titration pace or reduce the dose. Please discuss with the doctor at consultation.
How is Wegovy different from Ozempic and Mounjaro?
All are GLP-1 based but approved indications differ. Wegovy (semaglutide): approved for obesity treatment (up to 2.4 mg). Ozempic (semaglutide): approved for type-2 diabetes (up to 2 mg), with secondary weight loss. Mounjaro (tirzepatide): approved for type-2 diabetes with dual GIP/GLP-1 action.
Which type of pen do you prescribe?
We only prescribe MD (Multi-Dose) Pens. Each pen contains 4 weekly doses, providing approximately one month of treatment.
Can I get Wegovy even if I do not have obesity?
Wegovy is approved in Japan for BMI ≥27 with 2+ obesity-related conditions or BMI ≥35. Prescription outside this range is off-label and provided as self-pay treatment. Our doctor will assess medical appropriateness during consultation.
How soon will I see results?
Many patients notice appetite reduction within the first few weeks. Weight loss develops gradually over the 16-week titration period. The STEP-1 trial reported an average of approximately 15% weight loss at 68 weeks. Individual results vary; we monitor progress and adjust as needed.
